In addition to the traditional Global SMS Spam Compliance Standards, the CWTA (Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association) requires a few additional measures for messages which include a url link.

In addition to the standard opt-out reply STOP, all text messages sent in Canada must also include the following disclaimer inside your SMS and external advertisements referencing your SMS campaign:

Msg & data rates may apply

This general disclaimer also applies when advertising a text-in campaign externally on websites, media platforms, products, or any other type of call-to-action ad.

Compliant SMS Example:

[Company] - Just 2 more hours left in our 50% off flash sale with the code FAST50: [WebsiteLink]

Msg & data rates may apply. Opt-out reply STOP.

External ads include placement on a website, blog, press release, social media channel, commercial, physical product, or any other type of ad referencing to text-in to your SMS campaign.

Compliant External Advertisement Example:

Text [Keyword] to 28778 to make a donation

*** Please note standard message and data rates may apply.

Disclaimer: Your messages can be blocked, and your account may be banned if you don't comply with the CWTA.
