Receive SMS notifications when you charge your customers by using this Zapier SMS integration.

Preparation

Before we dive into this Zapier integration, make sure that you have:

  1. A Stripe account. You can sign up for free.

  2. A Burst SMS account. We offer a 14-day free trial that you can use to test this Zapier SMS integration

Step 1 - Create a new Zap

After you log into Zapier, click on ‘Make a Zap!’ at the top of your Zapier dashboard.

Step 2 - Choose a Trigger App

Find and select Stripe as the trigger app, and select ‘New Charge’ as the trigger.

Step 3 - Connect your Stripe account to Zapier

If you haven’t done so already, connect your Stripe account to Zapier. You’ll need to find your secret (not public) Stripe API Key. Copy and paste it into the Zapier prompt and then click ‘Yes, Continue’.

Once connected, Zapier will ask if you want to check for failed charges. We recommend that you keep it as ‘yes’ unless you only want notifications for only successful charges.

Step 4 - Choose Burst SMS as Action App

On the left-hand side click on ‘Add a Step’, then click on ‘Action/Search’ and find Burst SMS.

Step 5 - Select Send SMS action

Select ‘Send SMS’ action and then click on the ‘Save + Continue’ button.

Step 6 - Set up Burst SMS Contact Template

Next, you need to tell Zapier what information it should send and where. In the ‘Message’ field, we recommend that you select the ‘Amount’, ‘Customer’, and ‘Status’ variables. You can add them by clicking the hamburger menu at the top right of the message field.

Next, enter your mobile number in the ‘Mobile Phone’ field.

Although optional, we recommend that you choose a country for the ‘Format Number’ field. This helps prevent delivery issues.

That’s it!

Step 7 - Send SMS Notifications to your Customers (optional)

If you want to send SMS notifications to your customers, then all you need to do is repeat Steps 1 to 6, but make the following changes:

Change the content in the ‘Message’ field so that it speaks to your customers.

Then change the value in ‘Recipient Mobile Number’ field to your customer’s phone number by using the hamburger menu on the right.
