Save time by using this free Zapier integration to add new Eventbrite attendees to your Burst SMS List.

Preparation

Before we dive into this Zapier integration, make sure that you complete the following:

  1. Create an Eventbrite event (you can set it as private for testing purposes), and ensure mobile number is set as a required field, or this integration will not work.

  2. Add additional questions (fields) in your order form if you want to import additional information about your attendees to Burst SMS (more details about this in Step 7).

  3. Register for your own event. This will make set up and testing much easier.

  4. Create a new list in Burst SMS if you want to keep things separate.

  5. Add custom fields for your Burst SMS list, depending on the additional information you want to add (more details about this in Step 7).

Now onto the integration.

Step 1 - Create a new Zap

After you log into Zapier, click on ‘Make a Zap!’ at the top of your Zapier dashboard.

Step 2 - Choose a Trigger App

Find and select Eventbrite as the trigger app, and select ‘New Attendee Registered’ as the trigger.

Step 3 - Connect your Eventbrite account to Zapier

If you haven’t done so already, connect your Eventbrite account to Zapier. All you need to do is log in to your Eventbrite account when prompted by Zapier.

Once connected, Zapier will ask if you want to import new registrants from all events or a specific one. Adjust the options to suit your needs and follow the additional steps. For this tutorial, we recommend that you use the private event you created in 'Preparation' phase.

Step 4 - Choose Burst SMS as Action App

On the left-hand side click on ‘Add a Step’, then click on ‘Action/Search’ and find Burst SMS.

Step 5 - Select Add/Update Contact action

Select ‘Add/Update Contact’ action and then click on the ‘Save + Continue’ button.

If you haven’t done so already, follow the on-screen instructions to connect your Burst SMS account with Zapier.

Step 6 - Set up Burst SMS Contact Template

Next, you need to tell Zapier what information it should send and where. In the ‘Mobile Phone’ field, click on the menu option on the far right, then find and add ‘Profile Cell Phone’ custom variable. It should show up in green like the image below.

Note: Make sure that your Eventbrite form asks for phone numbers. Otherwise, this integration will not work.

Next, choose which Burst SMS list you want to import your new attendees to.

Although optional, we recommend that you choose a country for the ‘Format Number’ field. This helps prevent delivery issues in the future due to poorly formatted numbers.

And if you plan to personalise your SMS campaigns, add the custom name variables to the ‘First Name’ and ‘Last Name’ fields by clicking the menu button on the far right. At the moment it shows up as ‘Kennett’ and ‘Kwok’, but this will change for each new attendee that signs up automatically..

Step 7: Import additional information using Burst SMS custom fields (optional)

Did you know that you can import additional information about your attendees into your Burst SMS list? For example, you might want to know about their favourite hobby, age group, or location.

To do so, you need to create custom fields for your list in Burst SMS. First, log into your Burst SMS account. Then find your list and select ‘Custom Fields’.

In the pop-up, type in the names of the additional fields you want to add. Click 'Update' on the bottom right corner when completed.

Zapier will detect these additional fields and you can use them.

For example, we added ‘Favourite Music Genre’ and ‘Job Title’ as custom fields on our Burst SMS list, and this is how they show up on Zapier:

Just make sure that you ask for this information on your Eventbrite form too, so you can link the two together.

That’s it! Save your Zap and watch your new attendees flow into your Burst SMS list automatically. Let us know if you have questions.
