Email SMS. Send text messages online with an interface you already know.

Sending SMS has never been easier. Our Email SMS system allows you to send an email to a mobile number. You can send to one or many, and best of all, when the person replies their response will come back to your email inbox with the entire conversation.

Getting set up

Email SMS Settings

Email

This is the authorised sending email address.

You can authorise all emails in a domain, using the format *@mydomain.com

Number Format

This allows you to set numbers in either 04XXXXXXXX. Or 614XXXXXXXX.

Message Limit

This sets a limit to the number of characters that can be sent in the SMS. Useful for cutting off long signatures.

Sender ID

This will allow you to choose your Sender ID. This is the ID the message comes from, can either be a dedicated virtual, shared virtual or alphanumeric.

Notifications

This allows you to set email confirmations on delivery, delays and failures.

Conversation History

This sets whether you just receive a single email reply or the entire 2 way conversation in each email response.

Display From Name

This will set any name found in the Firstname and Lastname fields of a contact in your list to the name that the email comes from making it easier to recognise the person sending.

Message Content

Choose either the subject line or the body of the email to be the text message received.

How to send SMS using your email

  1. To send an SMS using your email package set the To: field to the mobile number you're sending to in your chosen format
    Example: 04XXXXXXXX@transmitsms.com
  2. You must ensure that the from address is set to a nominated email address above.
  3. If you want to receive replies back to your email leave the subject blank.
NB: The recipient will receive the message from our system response number, this can be overriden by adding a name or mobile number in international format to the subject line of the email. No spaces, 11 chars max. You will not receive replies to the email if overriding the sender ID.
  4. When the recipient replies, the message will be returned as an email to your nominated address.
  5. The body of the email will contain your complete conversation as you communicate.

A real two way conversation

If you want to receive replies back to your email, leave the subject blank. The recipient will receive the message from our system response number.

When the recipient replies, the message will be returned as an email to your nominated address.

If you have Conversation History set to on, the body of the email will contain your complete conversation as you communicate.

Sending multiple or bulk messages via Email SMS

If you add multiple recipients to the To: field they will be recorded in your activity as individual messages. If you add recipients to the CC: field the message will be marked as one campaign including reporting and response replies.

If you are planning on using email SMS programmatically we highly recommend using the CC: field for bulk SMS to avoid throttling errors and for simpler reporting.

Email SMS X-Header Support

Email SMS now supports X-Header. You can now send all requests to a single email address (sms@transmitsms.com) and set the recipient and caller ID in the message body. This feature is great for CRM systems and other types of integrations that use email to send out alerts but don't want to have to individualise email addresses for the standard email SMS system.

1. Set your email recipient to sms@transmitsms.com

2. Set your from email to your authorised Burst SMS email account. Set this in the Email SMS section of your account.

3. Leave subject blank

4. Set body as:

X-Cellphone: 61438333061
X-From-Cellphone: 61438333061

This is where the SMS body goes.

The command X-Cellphone: is where the recipient number is defined.

The command X-From-Cellphone: is where the caller ID is defined.

See example below for correct formatting.
